Y Ring Overview

What is Y Ring?

Y Ring is a typical lip sealing ring with Y shaped section. Lip sealing ring has reinforced sealing property under pressure. It has better performance then O-ring in super high pressure condition and can be used for many mediums.

 

How does Y Ring work?

Y ring is attached to the sealing pair coupling surface by its open lip. In the absence of internal pressure, there is only a small contact pressure due to the deformation of the lip tip.  In the case of sealing, each point in contact with the sealing medium has the reverse pressure equal to the pressure of the medium, so the bottom of the lip ring will be axial compression, circumferential compression of the lip, and the sealing surface contact becomes wider, while the contact stress increases. When the internal pressure rises again, the distribution form and size of the contact pressure are further changed.  The lip and sealing surface are more closely matched, so the sealing is better.  This is the "self-sealing effect" of the Y-ring.  Because of this self-sealing effect, a Y-ring can effectively seal 40MPa high pressure.

Y Ring with asymmetric sealing lip section, in the case of high pressure impact wear or loss of elasticity of the sealing surface, through its own pressure can also meet the sealing requirements, so in the case of the same material is better than the O-ring, its structure is simple, easy to install.

Service Condition :

Pressure: ≤40MPa

Speed: ≤0.5m/s

Temperature: general material -35°C ~125°C(special material -200°C~280°C)

 

Y ring is widely used in high and middle pressure hydraulic machinery, advance and return piston of

pneumatic machinery, piston rod etc. Y ring meet many pressure and sealing requirements by changing section structure and dimension. The service time is longer then O-ring. The applicable pressure is less then 40 MPa. With special material, the pressure can be higher then

40 MPa. It has excellent performance under high pressure with zero leakage from 2500Lb to 4000Lb. It can be applied in a variety of harsh environments. It has been recognized by many companies in the field of pump and valve.
